"To the initial post, if you'd like an honest answer to that question I would say that the difficulty is not outside of the scope of what we imagined it might be. This week's thing is going to be Canthan New Years, but it's going to be very soon that people will understand the extent to which the Dervish has been worked on. And the month won't even be done with that. I've got some pretty legitimate reasons to be excited, and I think people will understand by the time the month is out (not to say it isn't cute watching people attempt to fail-troll my personal life.) On some of the other points, I don't think we'd be tackling another undertaking like the Dervish. After it's out, I would rather see us doing smaller balance fixes than major overhauls. I think what we're getting out of that update is going to be fantastic, make no mistake about that. I just have some other things I'd like to pursue for the future that I feel are going to be a good time investment to benefit ratio. John Stumme 01:32, 3 February 2011 (UTC)"

Yes, because "smaller balance fixes" translates to "no more skill updates, foos!"

I seem to remember when small skill updates lead to better overall balance...

I find it rather amusing how the GW1 dev team used to troll with the customer-base last year, promising things they could NOT deliver.

The current team is no different except being a more talkative one.

Congratulations Arena Net on making your overhaul attempt on a profession that didn't really need it all that much.

Might want to save that for when the update is actually out. We've been waiting a long time, so you might be waiting even longer to say that.

But it was stated a long time ago that the update that'll come after the dervish update would be Embark Beach which has "other goodies."

Perhaps that "thing" he did today was one of the "other goodies" that'll accompany Embark Beach.

Lets hope so, although is it reasonable to expect an update we have been waiting for for 8 months 3-4 weeks before another large update?

The way I see it, a profession is an abstract idea, and the dervish itself is arguably the most unique in the game. Contrasted with more definitive ideas like EB and increasing heroes, and I have to believe those goals will be met with much less stress. The team might have a little downtime, but this is a huge weight off their chests.

I'd agree but it took 8 months for that, I know most of their resources are in GW2 but doesn't that seem a little lengthy for that?

I don't believe they were actively working on the dervish for 8 months. Sure, it's a huge update, they've created (not patched or fixed) a very fun profession with this update, it's certainly significantly better than it used to be and they hit at the core of the problems but I seriously doubt it took them 8 months.

I think it's just a case of wanting to update a bunch of festivals (I know QQ is heavy on this forum but I have to say a big part of me is bitter than Canthan New Year was scrapped for updates AGAIN while Wintersday and Halloween both got sizable special treatment AGAIN). The festivals hat strict time lines that couldn't be delayed for 8 months so the dervish kept taking the back seat that and the pressure of having to finish up the HotN/Taming of the Shrew plot line they had to complete with Gwen before we could move on to the next part of GW:Beyond.

Many of the updates the Live Team has been pushing out for the last few months were the remnants of projects from when Lynsey was in charge, I think they just kept delaying the dervish because most of them had finite deadlines.

It's not like it matters, as incredible as the dervish update is and how great it would be for so many other classes to really have a buff to make them less garbage in PvE, John has said his priority lies with creating new content rather than doing entire class rebuilds.

As mentioned above, they weren't solely working on the dervish update for that long. When Halloween came around, it was stated that it got put on hold to make sure the event was properly focused upon, for example.

But in any event, I was trying to say that with an abstract idea, there really is no deadline. You can't force skills to balance themselves and may have to scrap all your hard work when an idea is unworkable. I believe John himself said there are no plans for another profession update of this size.

Just out of curiosity...did the TK actually test the PvE only skills? I'm not trying to blast or anything...it's a serious question after testing these skills myself.
